Anomaly Story

In an apartment somewhere in Hethereau, a dog named Lucky once lived with its owner, an employee of the Bureau of Anomaly Control. Lucky remembered it clearly: during that period, Anomaly cases were frequent and staff was short, so its owner had to work overtime almost every day until very, very late. Lucky, left waiting at home for its owner, felt like the loneliest little dog in the world… The owner noticed of this too, so during work, they secretly connected to the home computer's video feed. When Lucky saw its owner appear on one of the screens at home, it happily pounced forward, only to bump its nose unexpectedly. Seeing Lucky's awkward state, the owner couldn't help but laugh. Basking in the owner's smile, Lucky felt the pain in its nose fade away and stuck out its tongue, laughing along. "Once work is done, I'll come back to Lucky." Lucky remembered those words and understood that the only thing between them was this hard piece of glass that must be called "work." If only I could do "work" too, Lucky told itself, gazing at its owner hunched over the desk on the other side of the screen. If work finished sooner, the two would be reunited sooner…

Later, on one ordinary rainy night, Lucky watched its owner through the screen as usual. It noticed the owner had gotten thinner, and the dark circles under their eyes were more obvious, but the dedication to work had never changed. Lucky barked twice, trying to convey the deepest concern a little dog could imagine: Owner, you should rest! Work can be slower, Lucky isn't afraid of being lonely! Just being able to watch the owner like this is enough!

Suddenly, the screen emitted a blinding light that illuminated the entire apartment, and Lucky instinctively closed its eyes. As the light gradually dimmed and Lucky opened its eyes again, all it saw was darkness. Unable to sense its owner, Lucky frantically barked, scratched at the door, and paced around the room anxiously until it collapsed on the floor, exhausted. Lucky tried to comfort itself, thinking: The owner must be on the way home! It dragged its tired body to crouch by the door, waiting anxiously. One hour passed, two hours passed, one day passed, two days passed, but the familiar footsteps never came from outside the door again.

"Am I abandoned?" This possibility never even crossed Lucky's mind… After all, the owner said that once all the work was done, they would come back to Lucky!

A few more days passed. Lucky stared blankly at the dark computer screen, missing its owner deeply. Maybe… maybe now is the time when the owner needs me! This thought suddenly appeared in Lucky's mind. I can't just sit around doing nothing anymore. Lucky took a deep breath and opened the door.

Opened… the door…?

Lucky looked down in astonishment and found itself standing on its two hind legs, having just opened the door with its front paws, just like its owner. After a period of surprise, Lucky quickly adapted to its new body. Thinking about finding its owner filled it with strength.

A dog walking upright naturally caused quite a commotion in Hethereau. The Bureau of Anomaly Control soon received the message and, after determining it was an unregistered Bio Anomaly, dispatched two staff members to view the situation. When Lucky saw people wearing the same uniform as its owner, it happily ran up to them. Just as one of the staff was about to pull the trigger on a tranquilizer gun, the other recognized Lucky. "Aren't you Lucky? That kid in the office was always insisting on showing us photos of you!" he said, and brought Lucky to the Bureau of Anomaly Control.

The moment Lucky entered the Bureau's doors, a long-missed scent hit its nose! Following the scent, Lucky found a desk piled high with documents, with a photo framed at the corner of the desk of the owner and Lucky together. So the owner hadn't come home to be with Lucky because "work" wasn't finished! Lucky finally relaxed and grinned. It wagged its tail, wiped the dust off the photo, and then did something that shocked everyone: it began working, as naturally as could be.

The Lieutenant of ETD-4, who had rushed over upon hearing the news, stared with awe at the scene. He seemed to completely understand Lucky's feelings. This understanding Lieutenant exchanged a few words with the nearby staff, abandoned the original plan to contain Lucky. From then on, Lucky stayed at the Bureau of Anomaly Control, and was even given an official title: Agent.LUCK.

It must be said that Agent.LUCK's ability and energy amazed almost everyone. Unfinished work was like enemy number one in LUCK's eyes. As its work scope expanded, LUCK even revealed a new ability: rapidly teleporting between two lit computer screens. With this ability, LUCK could efficiently handle work from other departments.

The Bureau of Anomaly Control's search and rescue for the mysteriously vanished employee continues, but LUCK no longer worries. Deep in this dog's heart, it firmly believes that its owner is watching it work from somewhere, just as LUCK once watched its owner work through that little screen. "Once work is done, LUCK will come back to me." It seems the owner's gentle voice still echoes in its ears from time to time. So LUCK buries its head deeper in work… This is how the owner felt back then, faster, even faster! Once all the work is done, Agent.LUCK… no, Lucky will return to its owner's side, and they'll never be apart again.
