Anomaly Story
Many years ago, just as a special recruitment fair hosted by the Bureau of Anomaly Control was about to end, an octopus-like Anomaly wearing a paper-bag hood came wobbling over. It had clearly done its best to disguise itself, but everyone could tell at a glance that it was not human. Under countless watchful eyes, the mysterious Anomaly extended a long, agile black tentacle and submitted its resume, making its intention to join the Bureau perfectly clear.
The interviewers were baffled, but they still gave it a chance. Since this Anomaly had hidden its true face beneath a paper bag for reasons unknown, it was obviously impossible to judge it by ordinary human standards. The interviewers gave it a standard interview, followed by several improvised assessments tailored to its abilities. The results were surprisingly impressive. The Anomaly proved highly skilled at clerical work, with remarkably nimble "hands and feet." In the spirit of fairness and impartiality, the Bureau of Anomaly Control ultimately decided to hire it.
This is the U-7646[Or], now known as "Mr. Bag:" an Anomaly with no Guarantor who found employment entirely through its own efforts and now works under the Bureau of Anomaly Control. True to its name, it always wears a hood made from a paper bag, along with a "shirt" made from the same material. Beneath that shirt are several long, flexible, shadow-like tentacles. "If you ignore the hood, it is actually very cool," one employee once commented. When no one is watching, Mr. Bag secretly changes its paper bag and draws expressions on it to show how it feels at that moment. No one has ever seen its true face, and no one knows where it came from. "Mr. Bag" is the name registered on its employment documents, while "Mr." is a title it insisted on adding itself. Clearly, Mr. Bag very much hopes to be respected as a human being. Perhaps that is one reason it chose to disguise itself and enter human society.
Since taking office, Mr. Bag has handled the tedious work of organizing and distributing documents inside and outside the Bureau. To let it work to its full potential, the Bureau assigned Mr. Bag enormous personal workspace, allowing it to wave its tentacles freely in an open environment and process tasks efficiently on multiple fronts. Its dedicated space contains countless mailboxes. One end of each mailbox connects to its office, while the other connects to Bureau of Anomaly Control offices throughout Hethereau and to certain government departments. Mr. Bag knows the location and owner of every mailbox. During work hours, it can be seen swiftly waving its "shadow tentacles," collecting documents sent from various places through the mailboxes, then sorting and filing them away. At times, it also uses the mailboxes to distribute documents. People unfamiliar with the mailboxes are often startled by the tentacles suddenly emerge from inside, but Mr. Bag has long since grown used to such reactions. Sometimes, after sending or retrieving the necessary files, it even offers a little greeting gesture before vanishing with a whoosh, retracting its tentacle just as suddenly as it appeared and closing the mailbox behind it.
Outside of its primary duties, Mr. Bag also manages "Mr. Bag Tips," a public broadcast channel run by the Bureau of Anomaly Control for all citizens. The channel usually broadcasts content such as "Anomaly Basics," sends out low-level Anomaly alerts, and serves as one way for Anomaly Hunters to obtain Anomaly bounty information. Even while handling clerical work with astonishing efficiency, Mr. Bag has never missed a single broadcast. Such astonishing work capability may be rivaled only by the one known as "Agent.LUCK."
Thanks to its outstanding performance, Mr. Bag became the only employee in the history of the Bureau of Anomaly Control to win "Employee of the Month" for fourteen consecutive months. "So, just treat Mr. Bag like any other colleague and get along with it. I am sure that's what it wants, too," said the then-deputy captain of ETD-6. To this day, the kind people around it have never exposed Mr. Bag's clumsy disguise, and the innocent Anomaly has long since come to think of itself as a member of humanity. As long as its colleagues treat it as human, then perhaps, in practice, there is no real difference. For Mr. Bag, that is enough.
