Field record

Picky is an enemy in Neverness to Everness.

In the field, Picky is logged as a normal Oddity, and the Hunter Association files it under threat classification II with standard clearance. Its poise is governed by the Standard stagger family, so leaning on matching damage breaks its balance bar fastest and opens the cleanest burst window. Use the bestiary filters to compare it against the rest of the roster and plan your loadout.

Anomaly Story

At a certain research facility, a containment breach caused the entire facility to go into lockdown. All power and water to the entire facility were completely cut off, and the Anomaly that had breached containment blocked rescue teams from entering. If this continued, the research team inside would suffer significant losses… At that moment, one of the researcher team's doctors picked up an unremarkable crowbar from a toolbox and began his story: First, he pried open the vents. Then he pried open the sealed laboratory doors. Next, he pried open the facility's security passages. And finally, he even pried open the entire realm itself… Heaven knows how he managed that! His heroic actions allowed the rescue team to enter, re-contain the breached Anomaly, and save the research team. Strangely, after this incident, the savior mysteriously vanished! Even more odd, his colleagues forgot what he looked like and what his name was, and the facility's personnel roster showed no record of him ever existing. And it was after his disappearance that the Anomaly "Picky" began to appear…

T-0847(Ob) Picky. Its appearance is that of a plain, unremarkable… crowbar. The kind you could pull out of any toolbox. As an Anomaly, its ability and instinct are to "open." As long as Picky exists, it will continuously attempt to pry open anything "locked" around it, whether it be a suitcase, a safe, or an Anomaly containment unit. Given enough leverage, it can pry open anything. When someone witnesses it opening objects around it, it becomes extremely aggressive and begins attacking the witness, though its strength is no different from an ordinary crowbar. Getting hit will hurt, but it is not lethal. Defeat Picky and stop it from continuing to open objects around it, and Picky will undergo nullification.

I would rather believe that this "Dr. Freeman" was merely a product of collective imagination. After all, how could anyone possibly break through an entire realm with just a crowbar? But scattered records confirm that this actually happened, and the legendary crowbar in the legendary doctor's hands carved out a path to survival for the research team. Picky, however, does not care about the meaning behind actions. It only retains that sense of urgency and obsession with opening things.

Anomaly Characteristics

· Appears as a metal crowbar partially painted red, floating at approximately one meter above the ground.

· This Anomaly will continuously "open" any "locked" objects within a certain range.

· After its "opening" behavior is witnessed, this Anomaly will attack the witness. Its strength is no different from an ordinary crowbar.

Anomaly Nexus

After witnessing this Anomaly's "opening" behavior, defeat it to stop its intent to "open."

Risk Assessment

Low hazard.

Containment-Guarantee Status

Private guarantee not permitted. A small number are contained within the Celaeno Compound.

Containment Measures

Contain it together with locked objects. The Celaeno Compound has prepared a "self-locking device" for containing Picky, which automatically returns to a locked state a period after being opened. Note: This device must be kept fully powered at all times, otherwise it may trigger a chain containment breach!

Experiment Records

Experiment on the Performance of Anomaly Picky

Experiment 1: Picky was placed together with a cardboard box, a simple combination lock, and a vault safe, respectively.

Conclusion: There was a significant difference in the time Picky took to open different objects. The more complex the locking mechanism, the longer it took to open.

Experiment 2: Picky was contained in a standard containment unit.

Conclusion: Picky opened the containment unit on its own after approximately 15 hours, and caused structural damage to the containment unit.

Experiment 3: Picky was contained in a standard containment unit along with a self-locking device.

Conclusion: The required time to open the self-locking device is longer than its self-locking interval. This containment measure is effective.
