Anomaly Story
Some say the harpoon is humanity's weapon of defiance against the sea. It is used to hunt majestic creatures like panicked boars in a common hunting ground. R-1851-1(Ob) Pequod may well be the very embodiment of humanity's will to conquer the sea, encompassing ambition and courage, but also greed and arrogance alike. It appears as a massively oversized version of a common whaling harpoon, covered in bloodstains and rust, lodged in the back of the Anomaly Sea Prisoner. Aside from causing the Sea Prisoner immense pain, no other special properties have been observed.
In earlier times, whaling was a thriving industry driven by commercial demand. Even today, such hunts are still ongoing, though not commonplace. Harpooners were highly respected aboard whaling ships, considering that they were the key to a successful hunt. They would approach beasts a hundred times their size in small boats, drive harpoons into their flesh to draw blood, then begin the long chase, tethered by a simple rope. Some whalers died in this process, claimed by storms, by the thrashing of the great beasts, or perhaps by three too many swigs of rum… But most of the time, the whales lacked the tenacity to outlast the humans. These giants would be hoisted up and dismantled. Useless flesh would be cast into the sea as a feast for scavenger fish, while the blubber was rendered in pots until dry and fed into furnaces as fuel. In the end, only thick oil and white bones remained.
From the accounts of some sailors, we know this "process" left a thick stench of blood and burning on the ship, like the smell of hell itself. It follows that the harpoon must be a weapon from hell, then. The dying songs of those ocean giants were so sorrowful… so profoundly moving… The conflict between the demands of industrial development in the past and the natural world is difficult to judge as right or wrong, but now that we no longer need to sacrifice their flesh as fuel for industry, may these creatures of the sea never again become victims of mere greed and ignorance…
