Anomaly Story

The Hypervortex is a highly dangerous Anomaly that suddenly appeared in New Helios, archived under number N-0824(Ph). The Hypervortex appeared and underwent nullification very quickly, yet in that brief window, it caused devastating destruction, nearly obliterating all affected areas of New Helios and resulting in countless casualties and property losses.

The Hypervortex can be divided into three parts: the storm, the halo, and the core. Currently, we cannot confirm whether the Hypervortex's appearance created the storm, or whether it emerged from within the storm. The thick clouds during the New Helios incident was one of the reasons early warnings were not issued. Under the Hypervortex's influence, precipitation from the storm cloud causes physical laws within the rainfall area to fall into chaos. The rain erodes the material structure of anything it touches, and organisms that come into contact with the rain lose control of their bodies, compulsively staring up at the sky. Protective equipment used by JTF, including the Black Box Mask, can resist rain erosion to some degree, but cannot completely block its effects.

Those who look up at the sky under the rain's influence will inevitably see the Hypervortex's halo, and unfortunately… by that point, there is no turning back. Directly viewing the halo instantly destroys the minds of ordinary people. Of those rescued from the ruins of New Helios after the Hypervortex's nullification, many had suffered brain death or become vegetative. Those with milder symptoms still had severe cognitive disorders, amnesia, or other post-traumatic conditions. Survivors who were fortunate enough to avoid the rain and did not directly look at the halo mostly escaped direct harm from the Hypervortex. According to feedback from Espers who participated in rescue operations, Espers can briefly look at the halo without serious injury, but will only see chaotic, bizarre images and experience tremendous pain, as if their minds were being torn apart.

Ironically, despite being an Anomaly that "cannot be looked at," its Nexus is surprisingly fragile. The Hypervortex began undergoing natural nullification from the moment it appeared, and directly looking at its core greatly accelerates the nullification process. Strangely, looking at the Hypervortex's core is harmless. The core is protected by layers of halos and thick storm clouds. The core has no describable physical form. Only "■■■■■" and "■■" truly witnessed the Hypervortex's core. According to eyewitness accounts, it looked like a "rift," or even a "wound." The erroneous info overflowing from the rift conflicted with the physical laws of reality and common sense, thus producing the phenomena including the storm and the halo.

After the Hypervortex's nullification, the damage it caused did not disappear, and the danger of secondary disasters cannot be underestimated. Surge Anomalies, primarily Protocores, appeared in large numbers within the Hypervortex's area of influence, attacking everything around them. Even after the Hypervortex's nullification, these Surge Anomalies did not vanish. Contrary to initial predictions, the Hypervortex's nullification left behind more than just ruins and rubble. Floating buildings, trees growing in reverse, steel reinforcement bars slowly branching like limbs… The city displays a twisted form of "prosperity," yet is no longer suitable for human habitation. There are detailed plans on clearing the ruins and rebuilding the city, with enormous workforces and resources being committed to the cause.

There were many witnesses to the Hypervortex, but most of them only saw the halo. Even if they were lucky enough to survive, we cannot extract useful information from them. Researchers later speculated based on the core's nature that the Hypervortex is essentially some kind of… space, region, or something similar, originating from outside our world, which intersected with ours. That world operates on a completely different logic, and the conflict caused by the leaked erroneous info led to everything that followed. We know very little about that world, but this may be fortunate. Directly viewing that world would probably fry my brain. The Hypervortex's appearance also caused some disturbances within the Circle, though those were unrelated to the Hypervortex itself.

In this Anomaly disaster, we did not come away empty-handed. We discovered… Insufficient clearance. Unable to access.

Anomaly Characteristics

· Divided into three parts: storm, halo, and core.

· Rain from the storm cloud alters physical laws, erodes material structures, and causes those who contact the rain to look up at the Hypervortex.

· Those who look at the halo suffer severe mental damage. Espers have better resistance but are not immune to it.

· The core is a rift with no describable physical form. Looking at the core accelerates the Hypervortex's nullification process.

Anomaly Nexus

The core being directly observed by someone.

Risk Assessment

Extremely high hazard. Has the potential to destroy an entire city.

Containment-Guarantee Status

The only known individual has been nullified. No containment was performed.
