Anomaly Story

Once upon a time, there was an ordinary tree stood among many equally ordinary trees. Back then, where it grew was still a dense forest with rugged terrain, with many ferocious beasts roaming about. Residents of the nearby villages made their living from logging, and woodcutters and hunters had no choice but to venture into the forest to gather resources and hunt. One day, someone passing by this tree tied a strip of cloth to one of its branches, both to mark the path and to wish for a safe return home. Gradually, more and more people grew accustomed to leaving something under the tree, wishing for blessings for themselves and their families. This practice gave way to tradition, and as humans expanded their farmland and cleared the forest, this unique tree was preserved and given its name: Fortune Shades.

Ages passed, and towering buildings rose from the ground. Those villages of old no longer exist, having long been replaced by a metropolis called Hethereau. And yet, Fortune Shades, having weathered the years, has grown into a magnificent tree. It still watches over each person who comes to make a wish, quietly waiting for their wishes to take root and flourish. The accumulated wishes have granted it the ability to bestow happiness to a certain degree, making it a unique Anomaly. This is the origin of Fortune Shades.

Wishing under the Fortune Shades produces a sapling. When the sapling is placed at Fortune Shades' roots, it is absorbed by the tree, and people's wishes are absorbed along with it, becoming nourishment for its growth. In return, Fortune Shades provides some form of small blessing to those who make their wishes. Sometimes it's winning a free drink. Sometimes it's nearly tripping but just happening to catch a nearby tree for support. Such small strokes of luck often brighten someone's entire day. As for wishes that are harder to fulfill, such as curing a family member's illness or performing exceptionally well in an entrance exam, even if they do come true, it's difficult to credit Fortune Shades.

Based on existing evidence, Fortune Shades shares certain characteristics with ordinary trees. Fortune Shades needs to absorb people's wishes as nourishment, and to ensure people continue coming to make wishes, it offers small blessings in return. This is much like how plants reward birds with delicious fruit, so that they may carry away their seeds. However, the nourishment each person can provide is very limited, so Fortune Shades can only bring people good fortune within an even smaller scope.

For most people who wish, the act of wishing is itself a form of psychological comfort. Often, the act of wishing matters far more than actually receiving anything in return. From the days when we ate raw meat and tilled the land with fire, to today's age of towering skyscrapers… wishing has always carried humanity's hopes for a better tomorrow. It is the determination to pursue happiness and the courage to overcome hardship. Fortune Shades watches over those who work hard for a better tomorrow day and night, drawing nourishment from their pursuit of happiness, and giving each person who tries their best its own small gift.

Containment-Guarantee Status

Given Fortune Shades' fame, difficulty of relocation, and symbolic significance, on-site containment measures have been adopted. It is supervised by the Bureau of Anomaly Control, with maintenance handled by the Hethereau Municipality.

Containment Measures

Early plans called for transplant containment measures, relocating Fortune Shades to Celaeno Compound for containment. However, Fortune Shades loses its power upon leaving its original coordinates and recovers only upon returning. Considering the difficulty of containment, safety, and symbolic significance, on-site containment measures were adopted for Fortune Shades, supervised by the Bureau of Anomaly Control with maintenance by the Hethereau Municipality. After the failed transplant attempt, Yggash Court classified Fortune Shades as a Location Anomaly.
